Danish Originals Podcast

Danish Originals Podcast

DANISH ORIGINALS is a podcast series, in English, co-presented by American Friends of Statens Museum for Kunst and Statens Museum for Kunst, and features Danish creatives who have made a mark in the US. The guests are outstanding thinkers and makers in visual art, music, film, television, stage, radio, podcasts, design, architecture, poetry, literature, dance, comedy, food and drink, fashion, green initiatives, social sustainability, and other fields. These Danish creatives share their stories, of their beginnings, their vision, their struggles and triumphs, their worldviews and ideals. They discuss how their connection to Denmark and to Danish culture has grounded, inspired, or even diverted them in their journeys.

National Foundation of Danish America

The National Foundation for Danish America (NFDA) was formed in 2019 with the goal of strengthening cooperation among Danish American organizations and ties between Denmark (or Danish Culture) AND those who have a special interest or relationship with Denmark. There are approximately 1.5 Million Americans who claim at least partial Danish heritage, and call themselves “Danish Americans”.

NFDA’s mission is to increase the size of audiences reached by Danish American organizations, and inform more people about the vibrant Danish culture and heritage. The NFDA website lists nearly all Danish events happening in the United States, along with current and upcoming museum exhibits, Danish restaurants, bars and bakeries, a chronological history of Danish America, and a listing of nearly all Danish organizations across America. Each Sunday, NFDA publishes an email newsletter “What’s Happening in Danish America” with current information, events and news. You can sign up for this free newsletter on the front page of the NFDA website. NFDA partners with The Danish Pioneer Newspaper to provide the latest news and activities of Danish American organizations. NFDA reaches thousands of Danish Americans each month through its website, weekly newsletter and social media.

Solvang, California

1911 - Solvang was founded by three Danish immigrants who purchased nearly 10,000 acres of prime land in the Santa Ynez Valley. Solvang is a tourist attraction with over one million visitors per year. Tourists were initially attracted to Solvang by the visit of Denmark's Prince Frederik in April 1939. But it was in 1947, following a feature article in The Saturday Evening Post, that they began to flock to the town. Sights include the Danish windmills, the statues of Hans Christian Andersen and The Little Mermaid replica, the half-timbered houses, the Danish rural church, and the Round Tower.

With a rich Northern European culture and some of California’s finest wine country, it’s no wonder Orbitz named Solvang as one of the “Top 5 US Domestic Destinations with International Flair.” For more than a century, Solvang has thrived as an authentic outpost of Danish culture, traditions, architecture and cuisine. Today Solvang welcomes visitors with Scandinavian windmills, flower-lines streets, traditional festivals, unique shops, and wine tasting rooms, restaurants, and cafes featuring both Danish favorites and wine country classics.
