The Cheer Committee

The Cheer Committee is an independent entity under the auspice of The Danish Church & Cultural Center. The Committee reports to the church council and consists of a fundkeeper, three lay people, the pastor and the treasurer.

Their purpose is to bring cheer, assistance and relief to the sick, disabled and destitute members of the church and persons of Danish descent and also arranges transportation to the annual luncheon it hosts for shut-ins and others who are unable to come to church on a regular basis during the month of May.

The yearly fundraiser is the elegant Christmas Ball held the first Saturday of December. The event begins with a bilingual service followed by a champagne reception on the patio before guests enter the always splendidly decorated hall for traditional Danish Christmas dinner, dancing and fellowship.

The Cultural Committee

The Cultural Committee is a sub-committee of the church council. It consists of 5-7 people one of who holds the chairmanship. The current Cultural Committee Chair is Vibeke Alnor Fong.

The Cultural Committee’s purpose is to present and promote Danish customs, culture, heritage and traditions, past and present, along with other programs and events, to the broadest possible audience in a variety of ways. Further, the Cultural Committee seeks to strengthen the bonds between Denmark and Southern California as liaisons, informal ambassadors and educators to the community at large.

Events planned by The Cultural Committee range from gymnastics shows and Danish folk dancing to various musical performances (jazz, brass orchestra, organ, choirs) and the popular Books & Breakfast series with Danish and American authors.

The Cultural Committee welcomes input, ideas and suggestions for future events.

The Kitchen Club

The Kitchen Committee plans and prepares Sunday lunches and coordinates food needs for other events such as Books & Breakfast, wine tasting, fashion show, sports tournaments.

If you would like to join The Kitchen Committee, please contact President Anna-Lisa Knudsen, Pastor Anne-Grethe Krogh Nielsen or any member of the church council.

Want to Volunteer?

Volunteers are essential to our church and cultural center’s existence. Without the scores of people who donate their time, energies, ideas and expertise each and every week we could not do what we do. Our volunteers do everything from preparing the altar for service to servicing machines, making sandwiches, pull weeds, paint, clear out clutter, set up and take down for events plus all kinds of other jobs necessary to make this place run smoothly.

Maintenance Committee.

The Maintenance committee overviews the Church Campus and plans repairs, changes or updates. Please contact committee chair Kent Hanson or any of the following committee members: Rush Robinson and Paul Christensen.
