Emmanuel Danish Evangelical Lutheran Church, fondly called The Danish Lutheran Church, is a Church and community based on the tenets of Luther and infused with the Spirit and the teachings of the Danish Theologian NF.S Grundtvig. Proud of its Danish heritage and its rich church traditions which are reflected in the sanctuary, liturgy, hymns, a strong fellowship, language, Danish traditions, but most of all reflected in the fact that we are the descendants of the “Happy Danes.” Humor, hospitality, fellowship and that unique scent of Danish Hygge (= coziness) are all important ingredients in our church and congregation.
The church and attached Cultural Center is located in Yorba Linda, and when you visit our church you are greeted by a beautiful beaming white church and a big runic stone. The architecture of the church is strictly Danish reflecting the 12th century village-churches in Denmark (the Danish State supports the Lutheran Church in Denmark upholding 82% of the population as members). The Runic stone is a replica of the original stone erected by King Bluetooth in 985 and called the Baptismal Certificate of Denmark.
The Danish Lutheran Church was founded in LA 1906, but due the demographic change of the neighborhood and the congregation, the church on 43rd Street was sold, and the new Danish Church in Yorba Linda was built in 1995.The Church is a proud member of ELCA and calls its Danish speaking pastor from Denmark. Even though the pastor and most of the congregation have strong relations to Denmark, we do have diversity in our membership and are well rooted in our local community.
